Hello

It has been too long a pause since this blog has been updated. Sorry about that.

To make a long story short... The record "For Men, Young People And Ladies" (or shorter: "4MYPAL") is ready. In fact it has been ready some time ago. We wanted to postpone the release date because some of the band members had health problems - not that serious but inflicting the band activity. We wanted to get the gigs going when we release the album. So we were in idle one year but now up and running. The release date is 7th of December, 2012. We play a gig in Nuclear Nightclub, Oulu (Finland) the same evening.

4MYPAL has twelve tracks out of which eleven are made for this release. One track is a bonus taken from our "Winter War" demo session (released in January 2009). If I recall correctly there was one or two songs that were recorded and mixed but did not make to the final release. Perhaps they appear as a downloadable at our www-site files later on.

Rock on!

Recording is almost done

Hello

Again a short update about our recording project. I have done all my backing vocal parts. Markku has to redo one song (lead vocals). Matti was almost done with his backing vocals. When these are done we proceed. That is we (read: Matti) start mixing. When the first mixes of the songs are done we listen them in order to find out if there is something we need to redo (recordingwise).

Hi

A brief update about our recording project. Markku told yesterday that lead vocal tracks are done. The project moves to the final recording stage: backing vocals. That is not going to last long.

Recording in progress

Hello!

Since the last update we've hit a stand still with our recording. In the end of march all instrument tracks were done. The lead vocals are half done when this is published. Markku had some health problem with his voice and it took him time to recover. During that Supernormals did not practise and after that I went abroad for two weeks. As far as I know Supernormals practiced once without me while I was in Crete. I have not seen the lads for a coupe of months now. Matti (who does the recording of all vocals) is now in Italy. I guess we are able to carry on the rec sessions in July.

We are not in hurry. We have no scheduled gigs. The recording has no deadline. My guess is that the CD is ready this year but I don't want to predict the month... I don't know how ambitious we're going to be with the mixing, mastering and creating the cover (artwork). We'll finish the recordings and then start to practice for gigs to come... The rest of the CD project runs then side by side with our practise.

Steady train

Here is a short update where we go...

We played a gig 26th of March 2011 at Korpirock Winter which is a small local rock festival held twice every year. One day in winter and one day in summer. This time we played with 5 other bands.

About our CD project. The aforementioned gig took our focus off from recording but it was a brief distraction. Train is on it's tracks and gathering speed...

As far as I know the other instruments except keyboards are done. Of course there may be some additional patching but that is another thing. Keyboards are almost done. It may take me a couple of days to do some additions and alternative versions and then I'm through with the keys.

I do not know if the singing sessions have started yet. I guess Markku is away this week and the start is due to next 1-2 weeks. After Markku has done his lead vocals Matti and I go through the backing vocal sessions.

I have not yet heard guitar and bass parts. Looking forward to hear a raw mix clip how we sound together.

Halfway?

Hello!

A short update of our recording process. Juha has done his drum parts as mentioned before. Petri has done his part with the bass. I have not heard those bass tracks yet. Matti has Petri's files as he operates as an integrator. I have done almost half of my job with keyboards and been sending those files to Matti. Mathematically I'm in the halfway (6 out of 12 songs done) but truthfully I must say that I've started from the easier parts. I'm not sure how the guitar parts progress but I've heard that something has been done. I guess keyboard and guitar recordings go quite well schedulewise. We have one gig coming up (26th of February, 2011) and it takes shortly my focus out of this project.

I've been recording keyboards with ProTools M-Powered 8.0.4. I have only Juha's "quick-mix" stereo drum track, a click track and a "clue track" telling me where verse, chorus, solo etc. starts. It will be exiting to hear in a couple of weeks how all our efforts sound combined. We've been playing these songs months now so I expect no suprises. Maybe some fine tuning (soundwise) has to be done.

Recordings and gigs

22nd of January we played a seven song gig in Nuclear Nightclub, Oulu. We were supporting El Supernaut which is a band playing instrumental music (two guitars, bass, drums). Thanks for a great gig and cheerful backstage time for El Supernaut! Check what those dudes are doing. I bought their record and like it.

Short update for our recording project. Juha has made drum parts and he gave the files to Petri and me. Petri has already made half of the bass tracks while I have not even listened one bang of Juha's drum recording. Been too busy!
